Nepenthe - mediocre
by: Leslie

We were quite disappointed with Nepenthe recently, during the time of the closure of the Bixby Knolls bridge and the slide to the south. The view is stupendous, of course, but we ended up eating inside to avoid the shrill voices of one of the parties on the patio, and our meal was really completely middle of the road for the money. I ended up wishing we'd eaten at Ventana Inn yet again, or made a rezzy at Deetjen's, or realized the Post Ranch has a tasting menu that is affordable. I had a seafood dish with julienned vegetables that was oversauced and somewhat flavorless. The wine was fine. My bf's steak was just OK. We keep hearing the raves about this place, and this was our second stop in, but again, it was just OK. I think we'll keep with other suggestions in future. I can't eat the view. . . They ARE open later than some other places, however, so certain mediocre is better than starving!

Pacific Coast Highway Hotels Guide 2011

To help you in choosing your Pacific Coast Highway hotel, guesthouse, inn, bed-and-breakfast, resort, motel or other accommodations, we've prepared our Pacific Coast Highway Hotels Guide ebook. In it we do mini-reviews of accommodations along the Highway, from Seattle to San Diego, through Washington, Oregon, and California.

For the 2011 edition we added new hotels, including a special 50-hotel section covering California’s wine country of Napa, Sonoma, and Paso Robles - by far the most popular diversion from the PCH drive. In all there are over 200 hotels listed, complete with 8 pages of color maps showing the towns where our recommended hotels can be found. There are both alphabetical and geographical indexes, helping you plan your journey.

We also include color photos of all the hotels that are our Personal Favorites. Here's the link to
