The best boutique hotel in the world for 2013, according to the Smith Hotel Awards, is right on the Pacific Coast Highway. Their choice was the Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur, California, the most scenic stretch of PCH.
The Post Ranch Inn was chosen in November 2013 from over 900 hotels that were picked by 36 specialist judges, and voted on by almost 50,000 people. The winners ranged from Budapest to Bali, with New York and Colorado also providing winners from the USA. The Ace Hotel in New York won for Hottest Hotel Bar while the Greatest Outdoors award went to Dunton Hot Springs in Colorado.
Categories included the Best Spa Hotel, Best Budget Boutique Hotel, The Eco Award, the Best for Families, the Sexiest Bedroom in the World (at Blakes in London, if you’re interested), and the overall award for the Best Smith Hotel of 2013: the Post Ranch Inn.
'A fabulous all-rounder – design, food, views, service… It doesn't get much better,' was what judge James Lohan, the co-founder and CEO of Mr & Mrs Smith, had to say about the Post Ranch Inn.
Our Hotels Guide
The Post Ranch Inn does of course feature in our annual guide to the best Pacific Coast Highway Hotels, and here’s what we have to say about it:
‘This is resort luxury Big Sur style, with rooms built out of redwoods and all the resort amenities you would expect – a superb spa, the award-winning Sierra Mar restaurant, a gym, swimming pools, and free activities like stargazing, cookery demonstrations, yoga classes, whale watching, and many more. You'll find the Post Ranch Inn on the Pacific Coast Highway about 1.5 miles south of the Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, and half a mile south of the Ventana Inn and Spa.’
